What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)

Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005

Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.

So, what are you listening to right now?

Hard to believe I had not heard of Towner this time last year. One of my biggest "finds" of the year.

And Oregon on radio 3 this evening, in fact I'm just off to set up my Yamaha HDD to record it.

SJB, can we eventually find an "arrangement" in case the recording works well ?

Well, so far this evening it has been Messiaen's Des Canyons aux etoiles (from the canyons to the stars) from de Leeuw and the Asko and Schoenberg ensembles - a stunning work (nicely recapturing the performance he gave at the festival here a few months back).

Just now the first disc of what promises to be a fascinating box of vintage Knappertsbusch recordings - it contained a reading of one of Bach's violin concertos, Haydn's 94th symphony and the Schubert unfinished.

Last night I had a first listen to Dylan's Modern Times CD then a vinyl session started with Etta James LP and then Fleetwood Mac Mystery to me, Heros are Hard to Find, Bare Trees. Then jumped to Beatles White album first 2 sides. By that time at 10:30 it was time to quiet down and go to bed.
