What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)

Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005

Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.

So, what are you listening to right now?

Still looking for a good Lp of the 'Dusty in Memphis'. Sundazed has reissued it, but I've sworn off their product.

Inner Visions - Stevie Wonder

Songs in the Key Of Life - Stevie Wonder. This and previous on vinyl. I had forgotten the pleasure of having to juggle the discs to play tracks in order.

Love "sounds" so much better, but for all the trickery it just reinforces how good the originals are.

Dear Haim,

How are these performances of the Chopin waltzes? I have read some very favourable reviews on the Tharaud CD. However, so far I only have Dino Lipatti's version in my collection.

Best regards
Espen

Dear Espen.

I find the playing of Alexandre Tharaud to be excellent. I like him so much that I am planning to get his Bach recording as well.

Unfortunately, his is the only version of the Valses I own, so I cannot compare him to other pianists.

A lot of people dismiss those pieces as plain 'salon-music' played by young women, but I find the title of the Valse op.34 no 1: "Grande valse brillante" describe them most truthfully.

Best regards,

Haim

Telemann / Solo Works / Harmonia Mundi

M. Verbruggen, flute
M. Springfels, viola de gamba

A real M&M album. Excellent. One of the best solo works I have.
