What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)
Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005
Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.
So, what are you listening to right now?

Like all CD's of the Savall family, also this is a gem:
A must have (for those who like the other Christina Pluhar and L'Arpeggiata CD's):
and of course Haden / Forcione, again.

Especially if you have to look at it while going through all three discs...
How is the Harnocourt's performance?
I have it with Collegium Vocale conducted by Herrewghe on Harmonia Mundi which I find excellent. The cover image is much easier on the eye too.

Haim,
I picked up a mint copy of Saint Matthew's Passion on vinyl two weeks ago with Peter Schreier recorded in 1984. Wonderful music that I have never heard before.

Just picked this up in a cheapo rack, because I liked the idea of Bycantine (arabic) church music sung by a catholic (?) nun. Could have been a complete (kitsch) desaster. Well, it's not. Rather interesting, in fact.
cheers

I love it! Fabulous cast, fabulous recording; a very unique and inspired way of doing things. I sometimes find NH misses the wood for the trees - eg his Bruckner - but not here. It's a very profound, joined-up reading, and the one I will put on and listen to in future.
EW
Which Bruckner recordings by Harnoncourt do you find below par? I have read that his Bruckner 5 should be really good. As it is Harnoncourt he probably bring some new ideas/perspectives to the interpretation, and it is not always successful. But he is often interesting!

Mark,
It is a wonderful music. I like to play it on Sundays, when I have a chance to listen to it without interuption.
On how many LPs does the Passion fit?
Best regards,
Haim

Stefan,
I have none of her. How about some more info?

I'm not listening to anything, actually. My lovely, stalwart Acoustic Energy speakers have been sacrificed in order to further my brother-in-law's mission to achieve surround sound cinema heaven. Meanwhile, sitting under the stairs, stealthy, brooding, simmering with latent talent is a pair of Shahinian Compasses.
Not to be opened until Christmas day.

Haim,
3 LPs. Eterna label DMM mastering.
Just about to listen to Händel Messiah (highlights), John Elliot Gardiner. One of my favorites at the moment.

Christina Pluhar is a baroque harp and Theorbe player with a preferation for renaissance music. Her ensemble "L'Arpeggiata" has issued some nice CD's. If you like Hille Perl, there's a chance that you like them, as well... Nice web site

Thank you, Stefan.
I hardly have any harp music so I am going to make a point to listen to her soon.
I got Haden's new album yesterday and it is playing now on the Mac for the second time.
Best regards,

On a Miyabi 47.
I am speachless!
A great low level listening chil yet avoiding a complete bordom by underlying interesting intricate rhythm section exposed by a CD555.
Haim,
My weekend is just not over yet.
