What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)
Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005
Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.
So, what are you listening to right now?

Kuma,
Do you lke the Grover LP? It has been a while since I listened to it and may be a while longer until my LP12 is fixed.
I have been listeneing to The Who "Endless Wire" and Snow Patrol "Eyes Open"
I found The Who a little dissapointing. It seems more like a Pete Townshend solo albm than a full blown Who effort. Also the mini opera "Wire and Glass" did not really get me going. Maybe I should give it another try.
Snow Patrol is good though.

A real find today, 18 classical LPs from a second-hand shop for the princely sum of $60 all up.
Included is a complete set of Beethoven string quartets (10 DG discs, Hungarian Quartet) 3 of Beethoven piano sonatas (HMV, Daniel Barenboim), a further three of Mozart Symphonies 33 to 39 inclusive played by the London Philharmonic, and two others.
All from the same collection I'd say, and all either apparently unplayed or in near-perfect condition.
For someone like me, who believes that the Beethoven string quartets are possibly musics greatest gift to mankind, this is a real find.
A whizz around the KAB and they sound like new, at least the two I've played so far, with a tone and sonority that CD could only dream of. Great playing by the Hungarians too.
This should keep me busy for weeks.

Explosions in the sky - The Earth is Not A Cold Dead Place
Haven't played this for a while and it's good. They are playing at Koko, Camden in March too, which might be worth the visit.

Diccus
Glad you are enjoying it, what in particular was pushing your buttons? Been off line for a few days spending time in another of your favourite pubs up the coast, the Ship at Newton. Six pints on New Year's Eve lunchtime with mates, set the tone for the rest of the day!
Playing now, Ernest Ranglin "Modern Answers To Old Problems" very fine.
Regards
Nic
