What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)

Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005

Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.

So, what are you listening to right now?

Kuma,

I see you are starting the morning with a cool funky vibe. It has inspired me to put my copy on.

Excellent stuff - especially the first album.

On first listen I actually perferred the second album. Both were good though.

Earlier:

The latest issue in Alsop's Brahms cycle with the LPO. An excellent 3rd, the Haydn variations were a bit of a disappointment only occasionally catching fire (given that the fillers have so far been the highlights of the series I had thought she might give Mackerras and the SCO a run for their money here, but she doesn't).

Then more Brahms, this time the first (along with Mozart's 36th) from Giulini and the Philharmonia:

Cracking stuff. I also have his 4th (with the Chicago symphony) sitting on my to be listened to shelf but I wonder if he recorded the others.

Stefan,

Thanks a lot. You are too kind. It feels good to be back.

Tharaud is very good here doing the Schubert though I like his Chopin better where he plays more freely and with more confidence. On top of it, the Chopin is an Harmonia Mundi... which means a superior sound.

If you do not have any other performance of the Moments Musicaux I would definitely get this disc.

Regards,

Haim
