What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)
Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005
Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.
So, what are you listening to right now?

Eduardo delgado playing Ginastera's piano music on the MA label.
One of the best piano recordings I own.

Haim, with the latest two you dive deep into European Jazz culture. Especially the latter (Nagel-Heyer label) is SO European. What do you think of Ignatzek ?
cheers
Stefan
Stefan,
Being from Asia and living in North America I find a perfect balance listening to European jazz.
It is my first disc of Ignatzek, and I am enjoying his compositions as well as his piano playing. I am planning on getting his 341. Do you happen to have it?
Regards,
Haim

I don't like "compilations" so much but the local music store decide to get some space in the cellar

Tenacious D - The Pick Of destiny. If you can get past the language and some of the subject matter, it's expertly written, tuneful and great sounding too.

I bought Tenacious D's first album a few years ago 2nd hand in the US. It's great. Great tunes and really well produced.
Obviously not for younger ears

Certainly not!
I've just been lent their first album but have yet to put it on my system at home. Not quite as listenable as Pick of Destiny but good all the same (not sure of the WAF though

Perhaps I should put Pick of Destiny on my shopping list if it's better than the first album.

One thing to note after their first album, it's only 33mins long..... In fact 3 of the new albums I received for Christmas were only around 35mins long too. Fortunately they are "quality" not "quantity" albums!

Mingus "The Black Saint And The Sinner Lady"
Arrived in the post today from the excellent Mr Dicuss.
It has had a couple of spins today and went down well with me, but badly with the wife. She does not do "discordant" jazz, which is why she hates Jan Garbarek. Sounds great to me, cheers Dicuss.

Nic
