What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)

Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005

Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.

So, what are you listening to right now?

Finally, the third disc of Tom Waits "Orphans". This is another true masterpiece from TW, in my view. Even if this is considered to contain the "outtakes" that didn't make it to other discs - many other artists would be glad if their published material reached this quality...

I can imagine some would challenge this, though...

cheers

I'm getting to like this - plus the Tractor Boys have just gone one up, well if I can't be there then next best thing is listen to music like Colosseum II with tracks like Dark Side Of The Moog and an incredible version of Joni Mitchell's Down To You. Was this Gary Moore's finest hour - of course with the great John Hiseman behind the drums it sure to be a high energy performance. No, it's not as good as Valentyne Suite from the original Colosseum, but Colosseum II were are an excellent band nonetheless.

One for Tam, I finally got round to getting it. A mellow groove, only spoit by the stopping and starting of the alternate takes, otherwise a reasonable addition to the Miles Davis collection chez nous.

Regards

Nic

Thanks! It's a brilliant album from an amazing trio. I actually saw them live with Stanko in Leeds a couple of years ago.
The album works quite well in that it's very 'seamless' and cohesive; they know what they do well, so they do it. My new system has really brought it to life.
Hyperballad is a highlight of course, but just one of many excellent performances on the disc.
Enjoy!

ps. Have you got Lontano yet?
