What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)

Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005

Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.

So, what are you listening to right now?

ps. Have you got Lontano yet?

yes, it's slowly growing on me - the verdict is still out. i really like Suspended Night and their stuff on Manu Katche's - Neighbourhood though. must finish this first...

i'll never forget when i dropped off my wife in my dad's borrowed car after our very first date in high school; we went to a Verdi opera and had a fine meal at a resturant that we still visit every year to celebrate the occasion. it started to rain really hard, and just as she got out of the car and ran into the house, "Take Five" came over on the car radio. it was a truly beautiful moment.

Just finished listening to Keith Jarrett's Carnegie Hall Concert. Great piano playing, with a slightly irritating audience applause pitched at a volume greater than the music - just like the commercials on tv!!

Don't let my audience comments put you off!

Huw,

Talking about penury, I try not to visit the Hi fi Corner and get caught in a futile persuit of some esoteric sound which I don't find that important when the music is right, and which I find totally useless when the music is not right.

I rather spend money on music and not on sound any day.

Regards,

Haim

PS

Isn't CPE just delightful?

The Man Comes Around....................... I think some of it is very powerful. It's very affecting for a 70 year old man of Cash's heritage to be singing these heartfelt songs. IMO
The Man Comes Around/ Hurt/Give My Love To Rose/I Hung My Head/Personal Jesus/Sam Hall/Desperado/ I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry/Tear Stained Letter are very affecting.

Bridge Over Troubled Water/First Time Ever I Saw Your Face/In My Life/Danny Boy, maybe because they are such iconic songs don't work for me and I skip them.

Rubin's sparse production and Johnny's clearly aged voice blend together very well.

The video for 'Hurt' is one of my all time favourites, but then i'm a softie.

Ian Dury - New Boots & Panties

The latest location given by "Diccus Tracker" made me nostalgic for "Billericay Dickie".
