What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)

Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005

Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.

So, what are you listening to right now?

Good morning ROTF!
Well.................this is the first volume of their production that came out in 1969, one year after the first official release.
I have this link to a short story of the band.
http://starling.rinet.ru/music/soft.htm#Machine

About the sleeve.
As you can see and as you surely know the one i posted is not the official sleeve of the first album.
What i have is a french Barclay edition (Barclay 920082)
http://www.groovecollector.com/home2/
Make a query and you'll find it in the end of the list as "no title" edition but the album is exactly the same as the first edition.

There's a cd new editions that include the "4" and "5" albums.
My advice is not to buy it.
I did it and get really disappointed by the quality of the transfer.
Very flat.
The vinyl versions are very far better and envolving!
Hope i've been helpful.
Smile
Gianluigi

Very helpful as always, Gianluigi

Very interesting link and thanks for the info about the cover. I have mostly vinyl Soft Machine records. I did buy Wilde Flowers on CD: the pre-Soft Machine/Caravan band from 1966. The CD is dreadful; not the music, but the recording - no effort in cleaning it up at all. It is a shame Soft Machine 4/5 and 6/7 CDs don't sound at their best as music that good deserves some care and attention.

Enjoy your Soft Machine vinyl - their first (official) album was probably their best; it has Kevin Ayres on it, so it was their best. Is Kevin Ayres the most underrated singer/songwriter ever?

All the best, Rotf.

According to Starostin's review there should be some Soft Machines/Pink Floyd's common release album.
But i just imagine the price of such rarities!

Yes.
I think that with this record they reach the highest tension.
"No excuses" is one of those songs i could play for hours.
Cheers!
