What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)
Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005
Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.
So, what are you listening to right now?

Then.... something a lot more raw....Buddy Guy "When I was walking through the woods"

From the little one in "Not only..but also"
Little recognised but he was actually a pretty good jazz pianist. This swings nicely.

I heard a story (correct me if I'm wrong) but Moore was doing a show as comedian which also featured Oscar Peterson's band of many years with Ray Brown on bass and probably Ed Thigpen on drums.
Someone caught Moore backstage and asked what he was frantically scribbling down. He was transcribing a Ray Brown solo he had just heard.
That's no easy feat.

Gianluigi,
This is actually a compilation of many tunes that are similar to their Moon Safari. ( I still think this is their best one ).
A nice down tempo groove through out (includes anything from The Band to Minnie Riperton's Lovin' You ), but it has enough variation in that it doesn't get boring.
It starts out with The Cure's "Al Cats Are Grey" and ends with Ravel's Pavana Pour Une Infante...
Nice!
A perfect late night chill out disc for me.

Cyrene...It is nice story and news to me but reasonable. I think the prime skill of somebody good at composing, music remeberance and improvisation, is that they can write down the notes played because their brain 'knows' the pitch of each note by heart.quote:He was transcribing a Ray Brown solo he had just heard.
