What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)

Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005

Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.

So, what are you listening to right now?

My used copy of Art Tatum's "Complete Pablo Group Masterpieces" just came from Django's. Six CDs, all of it brilliant.

Started with some Mary Black and then some Cathedral (Captain Clegg is my favourite ever NWOHM track) and then switched to vinyl to listen to Beaver & Krause (Gandharva).

Gandharva's a strange beast - parts of it are years ahead of its time - like something of Jan Garbarek's that Late Junction would play.

What's the Cathedral? Not one I know.

Cathedral - Caravan Beyond Redemption

Voodoo Fire
The Unnatural World
Satanikus Robotikus
Freedom
Captain Clegg
Earth Messiah
The Caravan
Revolution
Kaleidoscope Of Desire
Heavy Load
The Omega Man
Dust Of Paradise

Captain Clegg is my favourite track - it is psychedelic metal (whatever that is). It has a spoken middle part that is taken from the B-Movie about Dr Syn a.k.a Captain Clegg and is about the swamp people who live on Romney Marsh.

Dave Vanian the lead singer of Cathedral was also in Napalm Death, but Cathedral sound nothing like ND.

Ta. I've got you now - except that I don't think you mean Dave Vanian! Smile
