What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)
Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005
Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.
So, what are you listening to right now?

If they would grade music by penetration power (into soul), just like they do with military munition (penetration into steel), this one would come on top.
Can't agree more, Haim. When I saw them, couple of months ago, the "effect" was even stronger. Great album, great musicians, great music...
cheers
Stefan
Stefan,
I wish I could see them. Tomorrow I am going with Judy to hear Uri Caine with a quintet doing some Mozart and Mahler at the University of Chicago.
Regards,
Haim
I wood go, if Uri Caine was anywhere near. Have two of his Mahler CD's, and sneak around the Mozart one. Very much praised, here. Have fun !!! (Or, did this already happen ? Lost track - was on the road for the UN...)
cheers

Charlie Haden & Hank Jones - Steal Away; a perfect way to unwind after the (simplistic) rollercoaster ride that was Blood Diamond.

Does your copy (if it's CD of course) have the alternate of Madness? Tony Williams' drumming just blows me away on that track.

Was: John Williams & The London String Quartet - Boccherini Quintets
A decent e-Bay purchase, very pleasant way to kick off the listening session
Is: Keith Jarrett - Arbour Zena
This is a great disc, the vinyl sounds very different to the CD, with Charlie Haden's bass more present in the mix. I think this one stirs the emotions, probably not the jazzers favourite Jarrett but definitely worth a listen. I find it quite therapeutic and not at all cold, often the reaction to Garbarek's saxophone.
