What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)
Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005
Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.
So, what are you listening to right now?

Pearl Jam's Riot Act.
How much difference does it make to this band having Matt Cameron thumping the tubs?

I know.
It's only a soundtrack.
But music goes further, does it?
Soundtrack.
Shame that Massimo Girotti is not here anymore.
Some of us live and learn by esperiences but paradoxically we don't live enough to pass them on.

Gian,
That was a great 1963 Italian movie I watched this week.
Hope you are doing real well,
Haim

Dear Haim!
Italy is sinking in Silvio's love affairs and i hardly retain my nausea.
Risi's movies are a piece of our history and frankly are, sometimes, more real than the real thing.
Hard times for music lovers.

PS: did you have more snow?
I'm missing it.
I feel just like living on Mars.
The only happy are little birds and squirrels that seemingly have had a lot of fun lately = more little squirrels around!

Take care!

Tom Waits - Used Songs, an interesting compilation but I think I prefer the albums as standalone works, w/o the need for a sampler - one for the car I think.

Graham Fitkin - Kaplan
Grahan Fitkin is a modern classical composer who is "accessable" but not bland in a Classic FM way. Kaplan is an electronic piece he made with Ruth Wall, and is really rather good.
Sample here on Ruth Wall's site. Also worth checking out is her album of contemporary harp pieces, The Uncommon Harp. This is superb chill-out music.

Ohhhhhhh please!
I'm ashamed in front of the entire world.
Btw the old whoremonger (sorry for language) got a lesson he'll hardly forget.
It's all child-men's fate.

Can I make a small plea? There's some potentially interesting stuff posted here and I for one would like to know a little bit about it.
Fair enough if you're posting a picture of Rubber Soul or The Sound Of Music, then 'nuff said. But some of the obscurer stuff might warrant a quick line to describe genre or general feeling so that one could go off and find out more.
At the moment it's mostly just a pretty picture gallery.
ANd some of them are so big you only get a few posts per page so it's easy for stuff to get lost.
Just a thought.

Tord Gustavsen: The Ground. All time classic to be rediscovered... (The delivery man today said he's been talkign to Manfred Eicher, once, and had discovered taht he uses those funny ESL's as well. Not sure if this is a true story...)
Is:
Annouar Brahem - Thimar. Oh man, I must listen to some less well recorded stuff, just to get the balance right. this is just TOOO good...

Gian,
We have snow. It has been below freezing over a week. All the cars here are UN cars, white from salt. The weekend it is going to be between -12C to -21C and I already ordered my white fur coat from Moscow.
I wish I were in Italy now. At least I can play some Italian pianist...
Regards,
Haim

Anyone who will listen. It's a discussion idea. From other forums that have this idea (and it's a good one) it's a way of finding out what sort of musical taste other posters have and therefore can be a launching point for further discussion.
Perhaps it's my own personal ignorance, but quite a few of the sleeves posted leave me scratching my head and wondering what sort of music that might be. MY thought was that, for the less obvious stuff a word or two of description would be a help. That's all really.

Oh yes.
Now i get it!
You're not ignorant Gary and there's millions records outside that we did not and probably will never be able to listen to.
So you ask for a short desciption and i'll try to give you some tips of what i post.
Btw don't forget that some sites give some samples of the records they're selling.
That's a rough way to find out something new and it's a way i often use.

Cheers!
