What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)

Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005

Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.

So, what are you listening to right now?

He's actually a capable singer. Wonderful phrasing.
A side A contains his original composition which I am not too keen on, but the Side B is all old Gershwin tunes which are great.

There's a series? I'll have to check it out. I bought the Philly one at random as I was wandering past a record shop.

Thanks Kuma-san (Winker I'm going to Tokyo for a few days, just practising my Japanese etiquette).

Steve,

Yes. it's out of Unisex Label. AFAIK, there are California, Detroit, Chicago, Atlanta and NYC Soul compilation.

i've also got the London Soul in vinyl. It's pretty good but some of the recordings are rough. There are few good cuts there, tho.

Now back to the regular programming. Big Grin

I remember the sadly missed John Peel playing a mellow acoustic number from "In for the Killtaker" and saying "those 3 minutes of lovilness were brought to you by Fugazi". I promptly went out and bought the album (in the days when one did go out to buy an album!) and boy was I suprised at what I got. (the neighbours were too!)

Perfect choice for a sunny Sunday morning.
Features one of my favourite tune: 'sometime ago'.
I should get a hold of a transcription...
