What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)

Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005

Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.

So, what are you listening to right now?

Now

Vinyl again. Smooooth and funky.

Just listening to Rick Wakeman on Planet Rock. I thought all clever(stupid) names had been used up in the '60s. the title was "Six Dimensions of the Electric Camenbert" from 2000. The track was pretty ordinary though.

Absolutely wonderful album and again record cover (was it a Mapplethorpe photograph)?. She might not be everyone's cup of darjeeling (sorry Rasher) but in the late 70's she was my ideal woman - beautiful.

Haim,

Very interesting instrument and sound, nice singing as well. BTW The Barri Gotic area of Barcelona where this was recorded is a great place to stay, if you have not been. Very easy to rent apartments for the weekend, nice bars and great restaurants.

Regards

Nic

I just really hope no one on the Forum is crass enough or of low enough intelligence to suggest it may be Wok n' Roll................. doh Winker

Chris

My only Willie deVille is Miracle on Vinyl, featuring Mark Knopfler. The political satire of Southern Politician, New Orleans vibe of Spanish Jack and the Classic Assassin Of Love make this one of my Fav LP's.

I agree. "Miracle" is another minor masterpiece. I also have "Loup Garou" and "Victory Mixture", both on CD. The "Backstreets" CD is on FNAC, so I must have bought it on a trip to France some years ago. Great version of Hey Joe, with mariachi trumpets!

Now playing "Miracle"! Very enjoyable.

Just played and had to turn the Volume up to 3 o/c on "Politician", MK's understated Wah Wah is so powerful. Sure glad I bought this (Canadian Vinyl LP 833 669-1)at the Bristol Hi-Fi show many years ago. "Nightfalls" is also a beutifull track and one for a slow dance at your next Party!

Another top-20 of my eternal "best of" list:

or what is left of it. The CD (bought in the States, 3 years ago) is my first and only sample of self-destruction. The metal layer goes away starting from the outmost tracks. Last track can not be listend to, any more.

So much to the life span of CD's (well, to be honest, this is an SACD, but shouldn't make a difference...)

So, enjoying at least 11 (out of 12) tracks of this great recording.

cheers
Stefan

Stefan,

I do not have any of Oregon's work. Would you recommend it or do you have another one of theirs higher up on your eternal list?
I am kind of scared to ask who you have as number one there...
