What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)

Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005

Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.

So, what are you listening to right now?

Silver Sunshine - A Pocket Of Pure Spirit E.P.

Silver Sunshine are/were a band that produced top tunes with a 60's style (so backwrads guitars, phasing, mellotrons etc.) but tastefully so. This is where you can hear samples and here's their Myspace. I can thoroughly recommend the E.P. and the album.

They've just changed their name to Astra (for reasons best known to themselves), and they've got a demo of their latest album-in-making here, on good old Myspace

There's not much that Dreamhouse isn't a cure for.

Just was: Sinoia Caves - The Enchanter Persuaded, as featured recently on The Freak Zone. This is a solo album by Black Mountain's (themselves a first-rate straight ahead rock outfit) keyboard player and consists of a few short tracks sandwiched between two monolithic and glorious pieces of electronic instrumental (epic grandeur without pomp or new-age weebliness). Sadly the sample here is from one of their shorter tracks - still good though.

Gian i got that on the black stuff a few weeks back Coolmunch

Black stuff here as well Munch!
But....gosh......after 16 years on a shelf this sound so ruined.
I've used many of my records at work in radio stations with those cheap cartridges.
Now i hear the results.
I'll claim for damages!

I'm happy with the P3.
Of course is not a 10k TT but it rocks the soul!
That was my aim!
Always cool!

Love it. Bought it the day it came out in the UK!
i'm pretty much a fan of all their work so far, especially Stanko's latest, Lontano .

Can't agree more, Cyrene... Have seen them life both with and without Stanko, and must say they're a real hope for European Jazz !!!

cheers

I was on an Grundig mono tape recorder.
I remember recording cassettes with another mono tape.
Pioneering, if you want to give it a name.
