What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)

Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005

Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.

So, what are you listening to right now?

Smiglas: I listened to the Koln concert last night - lovely.

Tonight, a recent collection of blues-oriented material from Townes Van Zandt, the marvellous texas-folk style singer/songwriter.

Naif if i can use this word but very intense in its simplicity.
Just like the most part of EBTG production.
That's why i like them.
Btw i'm in love with Tracey's voice.
Cheers!

Hi Gianluigi,

I totally agree about Tracey's voice.

Last night I ordered her solo album:

I have not heard any of it, but based on her work I've heard so far (including collaborations with Style Council and Massive Attack) it should be good.

She has a new album coming out in a few weeks too:

Graham.

Hi Graham!
Yes.
Today hunger and anger took me out of home to town and the dealer told me that the new album should be out in these days.
I hope to get a copy next week!
Smile
Cheers!

Hi Gianluigi, Sounds really good! I used to love The Weavers when I was a kid - there was a programme on them called "Wasn't That A Time" many years ago. Out of interest is their any biographical details on the artists in the booklet? I'm interested in Studs Terkel - I knew a Studs Terkel (how many can there be?) but in a completely different field.

Hi Steve!
One of the two booklets brings Pete's personal notes about every song, a comment by Jim Musselman and there's a brief story about the artist that sing the song.
About Studs Terkel (the writer) they're two of Pete's poems recitations.

It was ages i listened to Billy Brags voice...................
Cheers!

Ah so it is the same Studs, I was going to say I didn't think he had much of a singing voice! Might be worth buying then along with The Weavers CD that I have just found in Amazon's 3 for £10 section. Re Billy Bragg have you heard "Mermaid Avenue"? Bragg & Wilko recording Woody Guthrie - quite interesting.

Thanks for the info on Studs.
