What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)
Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005
Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.
So, what are you listening to right now?

Ah so it is the same Studs, I was going to say I didn't think he had much of a singing voice! Might be worth buying then along with The Weavers CD that I have just found in Amazon's 3 for £10 section. Re Billy Bragg have you heard "Mermaid Avenue"? Bragg & Wilko recording Woody Guthrie - quite interesting.
Thanks for the info on Studs.
Steve
You're welcome Steve!
The set is very cheap (19 euros/10£ maybe) and come from a german label.
It's well recorded evenif the sleeve takes to those cheap compilations.
About Bragg's i'm still at "Greetings to the new brunette" times!
I had some of his albums passing by my hands in the 90s but i own no one of his albums.
Some of Woody's albums (songs collections) did follow me for some years up and down the country but were in the lot that went away together with "Will the circle be unbroken" II double vinyl and another very good tribute vinyl: "A vision shared" that came out in 1988.
Hope i'll be able to buy the vinyl version back again one day!
Cheers!

Hi Gianluigi
Well if you need a CD of "Will The Circle..." & "A Vision Shared" let me know...
As for Billy Bragg, once you get "tuned" to his voice I think the early stuff is outstanding, especially: "Life's A Riot With Spy v Spy"; "Brewing Up With Billy Bragg"; "Between The Wars" and "Talking With The Taxman About Poetry". I'm not a great fan of his later stuff but "England, Half English" had good reviews.
I'll try and find Where Have All The Flowers Gone, I'll probably have a look in Germany next time I am there - thanks for the details.
And now:
A Sample Of Blue Notes (1987)

My CD player being in Salisbury for some TLC prompts a delve into some rarely played vinyl. Human League-Dare next I guess too.

How are you finding it?
Currently the Brahms German Requiem from Giulini and the Vienna Phil.
Earlier it was scenes 1&2 from Das Rheingold (Karajan and the BPO - very interesting indeed).
