What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)

Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005

Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.

So, what are you listening to right now?

Gian,

How have you been doing?

I watched last night LAvventura directed by Michelangelo Antonionis. One of the best cinematography I ever saw.

How is Italy these days?

Dear Haim!
I remember i saw the movie time ago but there are some new directors and actors coming up that i'm tryin to follow.
Of course it's hard to get news because censors are always working hard and some products are hardly advertised.
The last two i'd like to order are:
"La strada di Levi" by Davide Ferrario
"The Take" by Avi Lewis and Naomi Klein (on the wake of some Zygmunt Bauman's books i read recently)
"Le rose del deserto" by Mario Monicelli
Did you get "Il mestiere delle armi"?
Hope you found the dvd edition.
I'm still looking for "Il segreto del bosco vecchio" and "Barnabo delle montagne" which are the transposition of two of Buzzati's books i like more but that seem to be out of stock everywhere.
About Antonioni i like "Al di là delle nuvole" (Wim Wenders) and that's the only one i have by him.
Btw there are a lot of good movies that marketing scissors cut out from the big distribution.
The production costs force labels to make the bare italian version without subtitles and this makes them hardly distributed.
Seems like italians like more "spiderman stuff" than other better productions.
On the wake of one of your posts i watched "The english patient" and found it still fresh after all those years.

The rest is unchanged.
I'm sitting and waiting for luminaries responses.
Meanwhile i'm daydreaming about some bettering in my analogue collection and source.
But italian dealers are so frustrating............
No taste in having exchanges or talks with them.
I think some of them should change their job!
Smile
Take care!

His orchestral effort.
Interesting anyways.
A side A was rather *feh* but side B is rather good.

Rachmaninov playing his own composition.
Piano Concert no.1, 4 and Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini.

I think he was a better composer than as a pianist.

I'm usually loathe to listen to movie soundtracks, but my wife bought this one and I discovered on it quite an enjoyable mix of moody electric Miles Davis, Bill Frisell, and Ornette Coleman. It's not a disc that I play often, but it's a pleasure to rediscover once in a rare while.

That said, I have a pretty low opinion of the concluding remix of In A Silent Way.

Off to listen to the real thing...
