What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)
Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005
Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.
So, what are you listening to right now?

Hi Carl!
Sometimes movies are supported by good music and sometimes soundtracks hide good pieces.
When i watch a movie i do sometimes try to keep a separate sense open to the music.
Cheers!

Picked up a complete set of Bach organ works on vinyl yesterday played by Lionel Rogg and listened to the Sonatas and some of the Preludes and Fugues. Great recordings and quite an engaging listen.
This morning starting off listening to the 6 Paganini violin concertos (having a break
) with Salvatore Accardo and LPO under C. Dutoit
Kuma, the review of Michelangeli refers to his Beethoven and Mozart. The Debussy is said to be bettered by none. Not my review and I look forward to getting my set next week.
Happy listening

To many here the ultimate oxymoron I suspect! "The Essential Emerson Lake and Palmer" A new double CD on the Shout label. A bit of bombast to help the Sunday brunch down.

Kuma,
Thank you. I will put it on my que at Netflix (are you familiar with them?).
I don't know if I am just getting nostalgic, but I seem to enjoy much more older movies which were more about substance than today's special effects..
A very good recent movie I saw at the theatre was a Turkish one called 'Climate'.

Dear Haim!
Did you get "Il mestiere delle armi"?
Hope you found the dvd edition.
The rest is unchanged.
I'm sitting and waiting for luminaries responses.
Meanwhile i'm daydreaming about some bettering in my analogue collection and source.
But italian dealers are so frustrating............
No taste in having exchanges or talks with them.
I think some of them should change their job!
Take care!
Gianluigi
Good morning Gian.
I am still in pursuit of "Il mestiere delle armi". The movie outfit I am working with has six months to locate the movie (they deal only with DVDs), after that, if they fail, they will come up with a roundtrip Alitalia ticket, so I can fly and watch the movie at your place.
On top of seeing the movie, did you read Michael Ondaatje's 'The English Patient'? It is a great read though not an easy one.
I hope the luminaries find perfection in you.
As for the Italian dealers, it could be worse. The could be music producers..
Regards,
Haim

Dear Haim!
Sorry but............time to change dealer?
Btw i hope you'll find the italian version with subtitles.
Italian dubbers' voices are fantastic (Omero Antonutti).

That's a good idea and the guest room is ready.
If you don't mind the 32 kgs pooch sleeping on your legs and belly while sitting on the sofa!

No, i did not.
Actually i'm deepening my knowledge in Bauman's productions and when i get too scared to turn another page i do pass to old books by Mario Rigoni Stern or Sebastiano Vassalli (i just suggest "The chimera" and the beautiful "Marco and Mattio)........................

You joke..............
I'm a country boy!

It would be nice to have some talks sometimes and some listenings with a dealer.
Presumed they like what they're doing.
But i see that they're still looking for the bass that kills your intestinal flora......
Some of them could sell shoes or cars......it's the same.
But as you wisely wrote they could be music producers.
And that would be worst!

Take care!

The Abbey Road Decade contains If I Thought You'd Ever Change Your Mind and almost any track by her that's worth listening to (and there's quite a few of them).
