What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)
Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005
Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.
So, what are you listening to right now?

It's good considering the source material.
That's all I wanted to know. I can live with all of the "character" of the source material; it's when the source material deadened in a misguided effort to remove any of the crackle etc that records are ruined for me.
Thanks for the reply. I've ordered it.

Quite right. There's none of Lester's tone lost in these recordings. They still have all the vibrancy you associate with sessions like these.

Raided my sons collection for some new stuff:
I quite like this. They seem pretty competent some good bass lines.
Not sure what genre this would fit in though, HMV says"acid-rave sci-fi punk-funk"

How good is Stanley Road? I've not heard it before,my great loss I think.

And then, I just pulled out this old favorite, Mingus Ah Um. I first heard it many years ago when I was in college and it changed my idea of what jazz could be. It's been a while since I've listened to it, and I'm blown away all over again. This record is absolutely brilliant (and the new SBLs bring out detail like the background vocalizations that I'd never heard clearly before.)

"Stooges Jukebox" This moth's free CD from Mojo magazine, allegedly compiled by Iggy Pop. Bloody excellent taste he has too. Really enjoyable.
Warning to ROTF: Mojo may be hazardous to your health this month: big Genesis feature!
