What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)

Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005

Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.

So, what are you listening to right now?

Gian,

Something very good for you, if you do not mind watching a French flick. It is about Foreign Legion soldiers stationed in Djibouti. Great cinematography & acting.

Regards,

Haim

Dear Haim!
Hope you're good!
Thanks for tip.
I'll look for it as a long time ago they asked me to join the corp but, with all respect, "Vive le Mort, vive le Guerre, vive le sacre Legionaire" was not exactly my aim.
Smile
We're in full spring here and that's very strange for the period.
I'm really don't want to make fun of you but.............i'm still waiting for snow and it can still happen.
This old world is really changing its habits!
Cheers!

Uri Caine's unique take on the Goldberg Variations (thanks to Haim for pointing me in the direction of this artist by way of his Wagner album, which made for most interesting listening the other evening).

Earlier, an exceptional Tchaikovsky 6.

regards, Tam

Dear Tam,

I saw Uri Cain perform at the University of Chicago three weeks ago. It was a Quintet doing Mahler & Mozart.
The concert was a bit uneven with portions of it which I found to be excellent, and some other parts which did not work for me.
The violin and trumpet players were outsanding.
I also have Uri's arrangement of Beethoven's Diabeli Variations, but I much prefer his Wagner.
Tomorrow I will be going to a Bill Frisell concert.

Regards,

Haim

Gian my friend,

Since you do not want to be a Legionaire and since you have a full spring there, why don't you go and... pick some flowers?
I am still dealing with winds and snow here, and that is one reason why I enjoyed the film with its magnificent sunny desert scenes of Djibouti.

Haim

Another great one of Frisell:

Ciao Haim!
So if that's your mood you can't miss "Mediterraneo" by Gabriele Salvatores!
It's perfect when out it's freezing!

Take care and beware frozen roads.
