What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)

Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005

Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.

So, what are you listening to right now?

Mountain - Roll Over Beethoven Live Good despite some dodgy singing
Renaissance - Mother Russia Live. Most enjoyable folk/rock/prog. I hadn't heard anything of theirs before.

Bought a few CDs while I was out and about today. Giving Echoes a spin.

This is a lovely CD, anyone who likes Anna Nalick, Over the Rhine, Karine Polwart, Sarah MacLaughlin should check it out. Not at all the 'Rock Chick' the heavy makeup suggests.

Joe Walsh- Smoker and You Can't Argue twofer disc.
Larry Davis- Funny Face
Steely Dan- Gaucho SACD
Climax Blues Band- Sample and Hold cassette original album before a very bad Virgin re-mix. Unfortunately I have to give it back to a friend tomorrow.

Howard - I'd thoroughly recommend Ashes Are Burning and Turn of the Cards (which features Mother Russia) - Annie has one the greatest voices in prog-rock; sorry correction she's the best. Shirley Collins is the only singer I prefer to Annie, but there's no need to choose when you can listen to both.

Beware of early Renaissance though as it's a different group without the wonderful Ms Haslam. That said the early albums with Keith Relf are not bad by any means.

Kuma,

I have two new Michelangelis. The one I posted and another one where he is playing Schumann's Carnaval & Faschinngsswank aus Wien.

I will have a better feel for them after a couple of more listenings.
