What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)

Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005

Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.

So, what are you listening to right now?

Ferenc Snetberger - Nomads

Stefan,

How is snetberger? I could not sample his music. Is 'Nomad' his best album? If he is really worth it, I can special order his music (at extra cost, like $24) from Tower in London. Please let me know.
How was your holiday?

Haim,
I only have Nomads (very good), Joyosa (with Markus Stockhausen, Andersen and Patrice Heral, also very recommended, though a bit more artificial) and his Budapest concert, which is solo and of changing quality (too much on Egberto Gismonti's traces, for my taste). You should be able to get all of it from both amazon.de and jpc.de with reasonable costs. If you just get one, get Nomads, but I think there is also better from/with him.

cheers

Stefan,

Thanks for the info. Apropos "Crossing", I do not know if you are into literature, but "The Crossing" is a facinating book by Cormac McCarthy which takes place along the Texas-Mexico border some seventy years ago. It is part of a trilogy of which a movie was made: "All The Pretty Horses".

Claude,

This is my most recent and favourite Hamelin. It is amazing how gracefully and thoughtfully he handles this difficult music by Albinez. Did you have a chance to listen to it?

Papa Wemba - Molokai. Not bad, going through some old CDs trying to make some more room on the shelf. This one will stay a while.

Some Primal Scream did not make the cut.

...also, because it's so frustratingly short...

So, you gotta work, tomorrow, Huw ?

I guess I am in a French mood today. I started the morning with Marais, moved on to Rameau and now it is Debussy & Ravel. We received this disc as a present for the holidays and it is my first listening. So far the Emerson Quartet sounds too analytical to me. Hope things will improve.

Is that a re-release box set or an old original set?, I have a few of the old electro albums gathering dust...must dig them out sometime for a listen....I can teach the kids how to hand spin on an LP cover Big Grin

Rest of the week is free.

Currently listening to the sound of perculating coffee and nasty FM radio.

I just bought California Soul today. Haven't given it a spin yet - I'm in Tokyo right now.

Says 1984 on the back so i'm guessing it's an original release.

Hand spin eh? Too easy. Winker I was the best back spinner in our crew but the windmill is where it's really at.Cool
