What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)

Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005

Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.

So, what are you listening to right now?

Listen to "Be Honest" superb production and recording. Not to mention a damn good track.

My neighbours hate me now.

I really fancy this Dowland, especially its seven Fancyes (Fantasies) "of free-form, improvisatory works in which the composer gives free rein to his fertile imagination and wonderful melodic gift."

Kuma,

You keep posting Ramsey Lewis.

Being from the Chicago area, I must admit that I have none of his work.

Any music of his that you could recommend to help me clean the house with...? I shy away from bombasic stuff, so perhaps something on the quiet-sublime side?

Thanks,

Haim

Haim,
I too am from Chicago and miss it greatly. Here are two of my favorite Ramsey Lewis recordings:

Some times his playing is provincial, but the live album has plenty of energy and swing.

I found this one in the cutout bin, from another Chicago product:

He is almost as gifted on the piano as the drums!

Haim,

I am a sucker for piano players.

I was only familiar with his recent work, but lately I've decided to explore his work between the late 60's up to 80's by raiding record bins at local record shops. ( this is far more economical to do so than on CDs )
What a body of work! He has been very prolific.

I am not sure if you'd like most of his work during the period ( a lot of crossover R&B influence ).

For cleaning music:
smiglass's reco. 'Sun Goddess' is a good one.
But, it's not a noodly piano playing.
Here's another one I love.

Put on a 'Spring High' and it will even make me want to dust things or two. Smile

A sort of like a Latin acid jazz.
