What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)
Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005
Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.
So, what are you listening to right now?

Most/many of you seem to know it, so it'll be 'old news' to you. But to me it has come as a very welcome tonic indeed!
Good wishes to you all,
James
James,
Samples sounded good so I've ordered it. 'Lost Highway' label is usually quite good I've found.
Best wishes
George.

A mixed bag tonight

Posted on: 23 March 2007 by Haim Ronen

One of those discs which is very mood sensitive.
At times I enjoyed it greatly, gettinng deep into the music & playing, at other times I could not deal at all with the sound which was bright, directionless and irritating.

I have it for only some days, now, and have played it 2,5 times. The half time was when I couldn't stand it (headaches hindered my curiosity), the other 2 times, I quite enjoyed it. Not Rava's best, though.
cheers
Stefan
Playing RAK up and down. Buy it, Haim...

I will, Stefan, if you agree to get my guy:
'Escalay' The Water Wheel (Nonsuch) played by Hamze el Din, the Master Nubian oud player who passed away on May of 2006. A masterpiece that you have to have.

Peter,
I bought the vinyl about 20 years ago and more recently the CD. JDP was the main reason for the purchase but no doubt Elgar had something to do with it.
Did you see the programme (black & white I think) many moons ago covering her short life. It was lump in the throat stuff for me and I just had to get this cello concerto played by her.
George.

Hi Peter,
Speaking of the brothers Finn, I've dug out this one to enjoy their somewhat edgier early gems.
I've also been enjoying 'Woodface' of late.
John.

Hi GML,
Put in a search for Jacquiline Du Pre in the Music Room, some interesting info on there.

No George, but I can well imagine there being mixed emotions watching such a programme.

Listening my way through an oldish (1956) vinyl boxset of Beethoven Piano Concertos with Artur Rubenstein and the symphony of the air orchestra New York under Josef Krips.
