What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)
Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005
Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.
So, what are you listening to right now?

'Escalay' The Water Wheel (Nonsuch) played by Hamze el Din, the Master Nubian oud player who passed away on May of 2006. A masterpiece that you have to have.

I think so, Stefan.
My CD carries the picture I posted and I believe it is a re-issue (1988) of an LP (1971). It has only three tracks:
1 The Water Wheel (21:30)
2 Remember (11:55)
3 Song with Tar (4:45)
Regards,
Haim

Bringing in the new day, one hour earlier than usual (UK clocks go forward 1 hour at midnight) Van Morrison Moondance on vinyl - anorak factoid here - purchased in Jan 1985 for the princely sum of £3.49!!

I think that Roft and myself are the only ones who post Dowland's music here. I wonder why, since his music is so wonderful.

Sola Scriptura by Neal Morse with Mike Portnoy on drums. It's (Christian) symphonic prog rock, full of melodies, varied time signatures, prog metal influences as well as the usual 70s prog influences enjoyed by Neal Morse. The album has three prog epics and one "power ballad". He's a great writer and performer. If you can cope with the Christiam lyrics and you enjoy symphonic prog you will love this.

Ciao Haim!
The record is one of the things that ECM did good just like other J.S.Bach sheets.
Good for a late at night listening in my freezing attic!
Because this spring is very snowy.
I did spend a couple of days pruning trees, the buds are out and it's snowing all around!
Makes me want to stay in bed al day long!

I can beat Peter Northpole's ubergeek ...

£3-97 vinyl (yes, that's £3-97 NEW) from Amazon just last week - Superb.

£2-49 vinyl, Friday record stall, Sheffield University Students' Union 1984.
And two of which I can't remember the prices! Prompted by today's 200th anniversary of the Abolition of the Slave Trade Act.

Exodus - movement of Jah people

Perhaps not quite in the same league as Bob musically, but I recall vividly the profound feeling evoked by Sade singing in her set at Live Aid in '85...

Jamie,
I'm liking the sound of that. I'll have a look for it tomorrow - thanks.
Nearly forgot, right now I'm listening to LCD Soundsytem - Sound of Silver. First track shamelessly borrows the bassline from Kraftwerk's "We Are The Robots", which is no bad thing.
The whole album can be heard on the BBC website at the moment. Think I might have to buy it tomorrow though.

It wasn't her lyrics that had me transfixed!!
