What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)

Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005

Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.

So, what are you listening to right now?

Hasn't followed up on what she's been doing lately since The Three Americus.
How's this one compared to her older work?

Beethoven's Eroica, reference the Klemperer Thead! It is something else, and I cannot wait to listen to the live concert from a year or two later! Also on the disc is the most phenomenal performance of the First Leonore Overture - unparalleled, actually. The CD is worth the money for that eight minutes alone...

Dear Kuma,

I am sure that you will see its phenomal quality as music making, and surprising quality as a recording too! There is only one other recorded performance that is as extra-ordinary and that is the exactly contemporary recording for Decca with the VPO under Erich Kleiber, IMHO!

What I want to test, and on previous experience I think it is going to be an exciting and valid venture, is to get the live "Danish State" reading under Klemperer on Testamant!

I will report back on that you can be sure!

Happy listening, dear Kuma! From Fredrik

Now that sounds like one great record. I don't have it myself, but with Dabsong Conshirtoe from Cunning Stunts and For Richard it must be a great listen.
Its a good cd i have had it for years.I dont know if you can still get it or not ,i can send you a copy for the car if you like.munch

Hi Munch - Sorry, I missed this post and your very kind offer. If that's possible then it would be wonderful.

Many thanks, Rotf

Saw Caravan at Reading around the time of the Cunning Stunts disc. The band and roadies etc came on stage lined up and turned their backs to the audience. At which point they dropped their trousers and showed us their bums. Each bum cheek had one letter written on it and reading from left to right it spelled Cunning Stunts. Thought it was brilliant at the time.

Have got Pocket Symphony yet? If not it is well worth a punt.

I was disappointed by Talkie Walkie, even at the 3.99 I paid for it. Is Pocket Symphony any better??
Steve

I haven't got Talkie Walkie, but Pocket Symphony is right up there with Moon Safari for my money.

Jono

PS Don't look up!!! Kuma has posted a strange cover.
