What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)
Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005
Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.
So, what are you listening to right now?

Boogies like a bastard?
![]()
yeah haha...it does indeed but not for the reason I gave earlier!
I'm listening on my new 'portable' cans, some Grado SR225 through the iPod and Cmoy. It's often said that the 225 and RS 1 were made for rock and they're dead right. Whereas the GS1k are just so civilised and detailed these just, well, boogie like a bastard

and Gianluigi, is this or Vol.1 your favourite?
I find myself reaching for Vol.2 more purely due to 'Morning Song'.

Yes very sad indeed - saw KC live a couple of times, he was outstanding.

This has got to be one of the best albums ever - a faultless gem that it seems too few know about.
Swimming
Women Around The World At Work
Casualties Of Glass
Boy Without Filters
Jets Seem Slower In London Skies
This Is The Ice Age
One Day In Paris
You Sold The Cottage
Three Hundred Years/Chemistry
This Is The Ice Age (1981) - Martha and the Muffins
Has anybody else listened to this masterpiece and have a view on it?
My view is obvious, this up there with the best: SF Sorrow, 5000 Spirits, Sgt Pepper, Piper At The Gates of Dawn, DSOTM, Anthems in Eden, Tilt, Village Green, Trouble Over Bridgwater, Tanz Der Lemmings and ...
Every time I listen to it: it just sounds better.

Nope it ain't just you I can't get into him at all. Just don't take his music seriously always feel it is like the way my godson would play jazz piano if he could and he is only 14. By the way he does play piano.

Going back to "Joy Divison" - Heart and Soul.
I totally missed these at the time and have only had the Permanent compilation from 1995.
I jumped in at the deep end with this box set but it is marvellous. So far I've just programmed it to play the two albums along with the singles released at the time.
I'm really blown away by this, it's terrific stuff. 4 guys and a wonderful producer all at the top of their form. No virtuoso playing here and yet it's all the better for it. Seriously smitten.

"Excitable Boy" Warren Zevon. The brand new re-release on Rhino. When he was good he was very very very good.

Thank you.
But i asked the dealer if they usually use a mule or a donkey to bring the goods up here!

Seems like we are living at 6000 meters!
