What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)
Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005
Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.
So, what are you listening to right now?

One if those albums one tries rather to overlook for fear of over-familiarity, given the sheer genius held within. I'm weak, what can I say?

This album demonstrates Patrice's jazz origins before she went pop. Love the Afro!

Never knew she had jazz leanings. However her big single Forget Me Not was one of the biggest chart hypes of the late 70's. Pluggers were giving away more free copies to record shops than the shops were buying from Warners.
Gallup used to run a chart diary which was picked up every Saturday pm. The record companies weren't supposed to know but of course all the shops who had diaries told the record comp. reps. That meant that every Sat am they would come in and ask for such and such an artist to be given a little boost. Then they would give you boxes of albums, concert tickets, teashirts etc etc etc. Basically that meant writing the record catalogue number into the chart diary to give the impression that you sold more. Queen, Fleetwood Mac and a whole host of big artists gained from it.
Funny how many times you hear samples of Forget Me Not in other songs nowadays

Even through my foggy, cold ridden head, this is the real deal from Neil Young - the mood and sense of homecoming event is captured perfectly on the eve of Harvest being launched. As you may have gathered, I highly recommend this one!

Mrs JWM and I listened to it on Wednesday night, and we have to concur with Peter - this is extraordinarily good. A real insight into prime period Shakey in the raw.
Highly recommended.

Haven't given my copy a listen yet but it was always a favourite boot of mine.

Yep.
I was surprised how early this release was. IIRC, 73?
I remember and was impressed with her playing in Lee Ritenour's Direct to Disc LP ( remember that? ) on a JVC label.
Then she went all pop.
This was a nice second hand record shop find.
