What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)

Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005

Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.

So, what are you listening to right now?

I totally missed these at the time and have only had the Permanent compilation from 1995.
I jumped in at the deep end with this box set but it is marvellous. So far I've just programmed it to play the two albums along with the singles released at the time.

I'm really blown away by this, it's terrific stuff. 4 guys and a wonderful producer all at the top of their form. No virtuoso playing here and yet it's all the better for it. Seriously smitten.

You would have to prise mine from my cold dead hands. A fantasic compilation with a brilliant book.

Strange one this - I've had the box set for ages but still haven't opened it! Theres' something so dark surrounding the band that it just seems to say - keep well away!

Peter

Peter,

I know what you mean. I bought a copy of Unknown Pleasures on CD as my brother has the original vinyl version, (I've got the original singles) and I did not even take the cellophane off for about two years. When I did eventually play it, I realised that it is not as dark and depressing as I always remembered it, just great tunes. I was at a gig at the Fan Club in Leeds, when it was announced to the audience that he had died. Not sure if it was The Teardrop Explodes or the Bunnymen or the Furs all of whom I was into at the time, but it changed the mood of the gig.

Regards

One of several new purchases today. Sounding good on first listen through. I heard samples from this on Saturday at the Heathrow Show.

Well it seemed like a good idea at the time! But then again, I'm sat here whilst Ibrahim (RIP) is doing his best in the other room...

Maybe it will appeal more another time...

Not having much musical success today - this album has some great tracks but also plenty of fillers and, despite being on vinyl, the sound quality overall is flat as a pancake. Nice gatefold cover though....
