What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)

Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005

Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.

So, what are you listening to right now?

Prince - 1999

Graham - comparing with The Hits/The B Sides (9362-45440-2). "1999" is clearly better than the version on Hits. Indeed it might just be my ears but The Hits seems to be at a slower tempo. Most odd! My "1999" is WEA 7599-23720-2 not remastered.

Prince - Purple Rain

Here we go again - same results really. When Doves Cry is compressed on The Hits, much more space on "Purple Rain". In fact I no loner wonder why I always pull the albums out rather that teh Greatest Hits. On I go.....

Prince - Around The World In A Day

Oh dear!

Prince - For You

Again miles better than The Hits. Even so this album does not have the best production - no slam on the drums etc.

Again less "muddy" than The Hits

Prince - Sign'O'The Times

The first one that sounds roughly the same. The original album is a little more "musical", it is also a lot quieter than The Hits, turn the volume up and you get a lot more "thump"!

You've got a massive Price collection there. Thanks for checking it out.

I've also got Hits 2 so I ought to see if that's similar production to Hits 1.

No wonder I only listen to this in the car....

Prince - Lovesexy

Fantastic Smile The Hits does not do it for this album - a one track wonder!

Prince - Graffiti Bridge

A little brighter than The Hits and certainly more rhythmical. Prince's voice has more depth and then there is the "slam".

Prince - Diamonds & Pearls

Much more depth than The Hits, the original shakes the house The Hits does not even get the trousers flapping!

Just in .. Re-Foc by Rodrigo Y Gabriela these two Mexicanos can certainly play some high octane acoustic guitar. I'd love to see them live.
