What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)

Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005

Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.

So, what are you listening to right now?

George Antheil's facination with machines.

Some of the titles to his musical pieces are:

Sonatina fur Radio
Second Sonata "The Airplane"
Mechanism
A Machine
Sonatina (Death of the Machine)

Sounds a bit like an engineering class, but the piano playing of Herbert Henck is brilliant.

After having been to a piano evening with Robert Leonardy (Schumann, Chopin and a rather exciting "Gaspard de la nuit" (Ravel)) some Chopin Scherzi, and Ballads, played by Adam Harasiewics

cheers

Just finished listening to a 1967 lp of Daniel Barenboim playing Beethoven Sonatas (Moonlight, Pathetique & Appassionata). Amazingly realistic piano sounds sprang forth from the speakers.
