What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)

Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005

Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.

So, what are you listening to right now?

Ten minutes break with Handel and a cold drink before getting back on the tractor.

Interesting but not essential outtakes from Closer era Joy Division.

Does reinforce how brilliant a combination of producer and group it was.

Today I've been listening to a BBC Legends disc of a recital from Wilhelm Kempff which included Mozart's K332 sonata, Schubert's D960 and Beethoven's op.101; Haitink's LSO Live Beethoven 9th (which wraps up the cycle, I'll post my thoughts on the other thread as soon as I can get round to typing them up); Tennstedt and the LPO with Mahler's 3rd symphony and Rostropovich and the LSO with Shostakovich's 2nd and 3rd.

Talking Timbuktu - Ali Farka Toure with Ry Cooder, sounding very mellow.

Just been listening to Ben Webster meets Oscar Peterson (and wondering why I don't more often). Now a little Bach, the Well Tempered Klavier from Walcha on the harpsichord, his later DG recordings courtesy of pe-zulu.

Tam,

If you like the Webster/Oscar disc you may also like this one, if you do not already have it.

Thanks for the recommendation Nic, I thought I had most of the 'meets' or 'with' Oscar Peterson discs but that one's new to me (I'll be looking out for it).

Didn't Oscar 'meet' every jazzer through the 50's? Winker
