What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)

Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005

Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.

So, what are you listening to right now?

"California Dreaming: The Cream of L.A.'s Seventies Rock". A pretty good selection of that genre. Currently Tim Buckley's "Sweet Surrender" from that excellent album "Greetings from LA".

Marvelous, dear Ian!

Myself, twice this evening. Beethoven's Pastoral from Vox with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra [not the Philharmonic] under Klemperer! My favourite recording. Quite a surprise how much sweetness and light there is in the reading. [In a primitive early fifties mono studio-taping, not recomended for those who find a good recording a pre-requisite!].

Yep, really accessible, visceral performances which bypass the brain and go to the heart - and no I've not been on the sauce. This 3 CD set is a gem available for not a lot.

Ian - just tidying up tomorrow's 9.15 lecture!
