What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)
Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005
Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.
So, what are you listening to right now?

That's a great album with the best version of Impressions this side of Trane! I am going to pull my old vinyl copy out!
Anthony
BTW, I am listening to Michel Petrucciani So What, Best Of. He had such a wonderful touch and interpretation of music. I am sorry I never saw him perform.

the Sex, The City, The Music
An eclectic collection of current 60's influenced J-pop.
From corky Cornelius to wacky Fantastic Plastic Machine.

UA: Ametora
Japanese pop diva. A light weight as Nora Jones.

A high production value. But the performance is pure fluff.

"The Best of Fela Kuti; The Black President". Haven't played it before through my Naim system - it sounds fantastic. Incredibly propulsive and a great window into the PRaT thing.

Got this one yesterday along with

Both are outstanding and fresh examples of these musicians greatness. I was really surprised by Michael Henderson's bass playing. I never realized he was a serious musician, after his vocal hits of the seventies, ie, You Are My Starship

Vashti Bunyan is quite prolific bringing out a new album every 35 years. Well at least they are both wonderful.

Chucho Valdes: Bele Bele en La Havana
The track one 'Sun Montino' is one of my *test* disc to see how a system can cope with complex rhythmic material.
Not too many can survive this one without getting totally confused through out not only the each instrument but how each player plays against one another.
