What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)

Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005

Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.

So, what are you listening to right now?

Another excellent album recommended by SJB - and also, now, by me to anybody who wants to hear a fusion of Irish (Celtic) folk music and rock done extremely well - have no fear, it really works.

Horslips - The Book Of Invasions.

Absolutely modern Francophile pop, with a bit of shoegazing going on. Very cosmo, baby; gimme dat Francois Hardy/Serge Gainsbourg thing.

Seriously, it's very good.

I have the Holmes Brothers "Speaking in Tongues", which is a fine album too.

Currently listening to Lyle Lovett "Live in Texas".

I have everything they have done and IMHO I can't think of a bad disc of theirs.

That Lyle disc is an excellent choice Chris.

Currently I am listening to

Furtwangler in Beethoven from a box of his recordings released by DG to commemorate the 50th anniversary of his death, including a nice Beethoven 8th and a wonderful performance of the Grosse Fugue.

Earlier a slightly disappointing Bruckner 6th from Barenboim and the BPO (it has been a mixed set - the 4th was particularly stunning) and the final disc of Miles Davis's Cellar Door sessions (I have really enjoyed exploring this set and thoroughly recommend it - on of the best boxes from the series in quite some time).
