What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)

Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.
So, what are you listening to right now?

Cyrene,
that is probably one of the worst recorded records around......which is a real shame as it has some great songs on it. The last good record they did.

You're right. Fanatstic record (one of my top twenty of all time) but I think it was rushed through recording. The band had so much material and they (and the label) wanted to get it out as quickly as possible before the grunge bubble burst. As it happens it's about as far from 'grunge' as the classics it's derived from -- well crafted, well executed majestic songs.

Talking of The Rutles any one remember The HeeBeeGeeBees? Whilst looking for another album I just came cross their 1st release " 439 Golden Greats" subtitled with similar looking cover "Never Mind the Originals Here's the HeeBeeGeeBees".
I seem to remember them as the same people as the Rutles but as usual my memory is defective. Anyway I was surprised to see that Angus Deaton was in the group with Phil(ip) Pope and Micheal Fenton Stevens.
There has always been a good tradition of "piss taking" records over the years Baron Nights etc. Is Wierd Al Yankovic still going?

If any one is really interested

I defy anyone to keep their toes from tappin' to this great take on some swing numbers from the '40s. Shows what a versatile musician JJ is.
Loadsa fun - 'reap that righteous riff ' indeed.
PS Nice acknowlegement, 'Thanks to Basement Music for sharing the losses'

PPS ... although they are still selling it on Amazon today so maybe they did okay after all!

Dear Rotf
Just listened to this, rather fine (though not the finest opera I've ever heard). The Philharmonia play wonderfully though.
Might be interested to know this is a rather 'tame' adaptation of the story: the children are ordered into the woods by their mother to pick strawberries and become lost (as opposed to being taken out there and deliberately abandoned). Still, worth hearing though.
regards, Tam
