What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)
Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005
Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.
So, what are you listening to right now?

Just played the first disc from Traveling Wilburys Collection [i.e. Volume 1] - not quite Led Zepp but a great upbeat set of quality tunes. Hearing Roy Orbison (I think!) singing "I asked her to marry me and she pulled out a knife" gave me the giggles!

Dido "Live" from dvd/cd release, Brixton Academy, August 2004
ps. Ewemon - about 40 (+)(?) years ago, I listened to that endlessly. It is at the very foundation of much of my musical likings (though that wouldn't include Dido

Ryan Adams and the Cardinal "Live Bootleg - Town Hall, New York City December 4, 2006"
The first night of a three-night stand. Over the three nights, a unique set-list each night, no song repeated. Not many would/could do that.
Funny enough I am about to start a little project to remaster one of the shows from these 3 nights. I will download the show from archive and probably start doing it shortly.
I am glad that Ryan allows people to tape his gigs. I wish a lot of artists where the same.
I have remastered quite a few of his shows before ie Fillmore 2001 (blows the version you can currently get off archive away), Offenbach, Malmo from ealier years amongst others. But have only ever given free copies of them to close friends.
You should pop over to Amazon US to see the video they currently have up of Magnolia and I forget what the other track is called. Great.

From 1999-2003, I was fortunate to be given permission (by venues/management) to record Jerry Joseph, David Gray, Chris Whitley, Drive-By Truckers, Caitlin Cary (Whiskeytown), Chocolate Genius, Ryan Adams, Richmond Fontaine, Box Set, Kevn Kinney, amongst others (including formative bands of the likes of memebers of the Decemberists). www.archives.org is full of recordings of artists, done with their knowledge and permission, and because of which these artists can consistently sell-out medium size or larger venues - purely by integrating their artistry with grass-roots efforts. If interested, shoot me a mailing address at uagain51@hotmail.com and I will forward you a couple of my (older now) humble efforts.

BTW just listened to the PG CD that came with MoS (noticed you have it too) - not bad at all (the CD not the newspaper).
