What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)

Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005

Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.

So, what are you listening to right now?

Sera una Noche / La Segunda / MA Recordings

Music from Argentina. Photograph on CD cover is upside down to convey tha state of tango music today. The sound as well as the music are exceptional.

A change of pace from my usual straight ahead jazz. Wonderful choral arrangements.

Sabina!
I don't care for many of Naim recordings but I love Sabina's voice.
She's much better than any of Chesky ladies, too.

Indeed I do Haim, two of the best small combo jazz albums you'll find. I keep going back to these two.

Smiglass,

I bought this album seven years ago but I rarely listen to it. With all those famous musicians I was expecting a bit more. I did not find their playing very inspiring.

What are your thoughts?

Haim

Haim,
I agree that Like Minds is not innovative, but it is enjoyable. The band is tight and that reflects the familiarity of the musicians.

BTW, The Billy Bang CD above was one of WBEZ's top 10 recordings for 2005.

The first track 'fun day' is such a happy tune. Gives me an instant smile. Smile
This ST contains more ballads than I care for but there are beautiful harmony in it.

John,
Yep. Me too. re: Do I do.
Sounds like he's having a ton of fun and it's infectious.

Facinating how much better original CDs are compared with compilations like the "Celtic Circle" series. Chalk and cheezy?
