What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)

Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005

Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.

So, what are you listening to right now?

Fredrik,

I like it: Beethoven in heaven and Wagner in hell. Which other composers do you think might keep good company to Wagner or a particular musician to play down there?

I don't think the composer of Parsifal has gone to hell; perhaps he redeemed himself?! Winker

Anyway, I'm listening to this while I sip me coffee and read the papers:

Menuhin's violin playing is astonishing! Did he have a double for these sessions? It's hard to believe it's the same violinist who scraped his way through those lamentable recordings with Boult only a few years previously! I must have a listen to Kempff's earlier recording with Schneiderhan sometime though...

Last night we listened to "Dusty at the BBC". She really did have an amazing voice. We listened to her version of "To Love Somebody" and then I got out "Love Is", the Eric Burdon and the Animals album that I recently got from amazon.de. Wow. Hadn't had a chance to play that one before - it was fantastic. A great remaster. We listened to that track (6) and liked it so much that we played the whole album before retiring for the night.
