What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)

Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005

Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.

So, what are you listening to right now?

and (even more so)

two great new issues that show that ACT is really catching up on ECM.

Worth having, both.

Cowboy Junkies-Lay It Down

Speaking of Closer, I pulled out my copy of Unknown Pleasures for a spin on the LP12 last night.

I do like these records.
They have a sound in the sound.
My old vinyl copies are gone and i'm tasting the pleasure to buy them again albeit on digital printing.
Next time i think i'll get Cocteau Twins and Stone Roses' discographies as i found them complete and very cheap.
Last friday i left a Church's album on the shelf.
Mistake!

Thanks, Cyrene, for pointing me to this. Fine music. Sonics of MY edition: Over-Mastered... Sounds a bit like when I xfer music to MP3 for the player, and then burn a CD from it, again. Artificial reverb, and missing hiss where there should be hiss.

Thank you, Huw, for pointing me to this Winker ! Excellent sound quality (recorded 1964 !) and a real step forward to the (already very good) Bartok box set I have bought as a Bartok appetizer, couple of weeks ago !

MCC at her most gloomy, but it still sounds great.

I know she's ill at the moment and I really hope she gets well soon.

Stefan

if you like that performance Stefan then you'll probably enjoy this one too.
It's a hybrid SACD but even on normal CD players the sound is so 'alive'. The whole series of Red Seal discs are available cheap somewhere at the moment too. I'll post back when I find the link.
