What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)
Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005
Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.
So, what are you listening to right now?

Recorded at a cafe in Berkelley, California in 1998 and broadcasted on the radio (KCSM FM). Delightful music.

Brandenberg Concerto Number One in a lovely live recording from the radio. Earlier I listened to two hours of Prelludes and Fugues in quite another world, and the little orchestral change is just the thing ready for Bedfordshire!

Doing the SF / LA coast line, until next Saturday, Haim. Chicago was last year, and I went to the Barenboim / YoYo Ma in Chicago Symphony Hall, then. A fine memory...
cheers

Stefan,
Have a good trip. We will try to meet another time. I am flying to Israel today for two weeks with an hour stop in London so I can upgrade all my NAIM stuff (ha ha). Don't you think it is a novel idea to have a NAIM Duty Free store in the various air-ports? We can audition the gear on flight and upgrade at our next stop. That is what I call 'Jet-Set'.
Regards,
Haim
PS
Don't over-do the junk food.

So far, I still prefer my Giulini account but, after some rather harsh orchestral sound early on, it's not at all bad and some fantastic singing.

That is a quite wonderful recording of Figaro. But I hope that you have the elder Kleiber's non-pareil account.
I'm currently listening to Solti forging the Rainbow Bridge at the end of Das Rheingold.
