What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)

Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005

Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.

So, what are you listening to right now?

Btw i got this album for few coins and did not give it too much till the moment the player started with the track n°8.
From this point and further the atmosphere changes and i can listen to some of the best guitar tracks (would you call them songs for electric guitar?) i've ever listened.
Sorry i can't still appreciate Mr. Clapton.
After BB king, here we have the slow hand.

Hi Ian

Thanks - she sounds pretty good - I detect some MCC influence in the songs (no bad thing - when it comes to American singer/songwriters might as well be influenced by one of the very best).

Early days yet, Stefan, but it sounds very promising. I bought it more or less on spec, reasoning that it could hardly be bad with those musicians. Interesting, unclassifiable folky/jazzy fusion, as is par for the ECM course. Love the sound of the kantele, which is a new instrument to me. The lyrics are poems by a Norwegian nature-mystic, and are quite special even in translation.

Addendum - One of Borli's poems, in English:

The dream is a tree
that grows upside down:
Its roots fastened in the sky,
delicate root-hairs suck
strange nourishment
from the mouldy darkness between the stars,
while its crown spreads out its branches as
a resting place for the birds
in the boundless spaces of the human heart

Also forget to mention that Langeland has made a couple of albums which mix Norwegian folk songs with Bach hymns - impossible for me to resist!

"Till The Sun Turns Black"
(2006)

well I looked my demons in the eyes
lay bare my chest
said do your best to destroy me

I've been to hell and back so many times
I must admit you kinda bore me

there's a lot of things that can kill a man
there's a lot of ways to die
yes, and some already did and walk beside me

there's a lot of things I don't understand
like why so many people lie
it's the hurt I hide that fuels
the fire inside me

Will I always feel this way
so empty
so estranged?

Aqualung [ORIGINAL RECORDING REISSUED]

The Classic Records reissue of Aqualung was cut from the original analog master tapes obtained from Ian Anderson on Classic's "all tube" cutting system by Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman mastering. This version features, for the first time since the original Chrysalis release, an authentic faux linen textured gatefold jacket and original label art. Pressed on Classic’s 200g Super Vinyl Profile this will be the definitive version - period!

I still think the MFSL version sounds better but this one is very good.
