What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)
Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005
Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.
So, what are you listening to right now?

Dug out some very old tapes this evening, so had to fire up the Nak - still sounds great.
I really should buy these on cd - well maybe not the last one!
David Bowie - Station to Station, Scary Monsters
Prefab Sprout - Steve McQueen
Talking Heads - Remain In Light
New Order - Power, Corruption and Lies
The Police - Regatta de Blanc

Rotf do you catalogue your albums and cds on your pc?
No - I know I should.
I keep meaning to get a program that will read the barcodes and create a FileMaker database or similar. I know Music Collector has a good reputation and runs on Mac OS X. Delicious Library is another that I wouldn't mind using having looked at a trial version, but you have to use PayPal to get it, which puts me off. I think if they had one in the Apple Store in Cheltenham then I'd buy one.
I've got quite a few HMHB and Dr Shirley Collins albums.

Dear John,
I remember that being in the charts! The title song, that is...
Just listening to Dickie Bird, Brian Johnstone, and Henry Blofeld taking humourously about cricket! Later I think I will dig out the Hoffnug Brick Layer Sketch! Or perhaps joyce Grenfell doing some "Don't do that George..." those who know me will know why I think they are so funny!

I still have the book, though i dont look at it more than once or twice a year.OH the pain. You dont help much though with your post's of my old vinyl except to jog my mind to get it on CD. It would be good to get a barcode reader for home use. I did not know you could get these things.I dont have a Mac.quote:Originally posted by ROTF:quote:Originally posted by munch:

Music Collector works under Windoze too.
New Macs have a built in camera and you just hold the CD in front of it and Delicious Library catalogues it - wonderful, but I've only got the 25 album trial version.
BTW you have mail.

Munch,
Hope that you are doing well. That RGG Trio sounds very promising. Thanks for pointing it out. Did you get their CD?
Weather is spectacular today. Was tempted to leave work a bit early, spent the whole late afternoon on countryside roads, taking pictures.
Regards,
Haim

Thanks, everybody on the 'Neil Young' thread, for prompting me to pull this one off the shelf. (A birthday present from my sister-in-law when it was released. And to think that at the time I was a slightly ungrateful recipient - because it was on vinyl, not CD !!!

Courtesy of a very kind forum member - the first two Kraftwerk albums: not just music, more a piece of history. The cover's different on the vinyl double album I now have.

Georg Friedrich Händel - Organ concert Nr. 1 Op. 4 with Karl Richter and his chamber orchestra on the Decca label. Great apart from the little niggling scratches

Looks interesting Stefan - care to say more?
Sure: A huge barrel organ ist the central part of this musical puzzle. All pieces (in range from Eric Satie to Scott Joplin...) have been writtten (or arranged) for this instrument. Accompanied by Sabine Meyer, her brother and soem other woodwind players. Swings like hell, brings back children days (at the run-about), etc. Great fun..

A shame to have missed her playing at the Orangerie.
I really enjoy her Weber concerts
