What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)

Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005

Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.

So, what are you listening to right now?

Jason Isbell Band

(note-JI's most recent previous band was Drive-By Truckers - this man rocks big time with a dollop of soul. haven't got his new commercial release yet but it is near the top of the want list)

Dear Haim,

I must confess to being a little more lukewarm about her Beethoven (I enjoyed it, but I don't treasure it in the way I do the Mozart). Some of the Schubert was very fine, but other bits less so (though I think in that case buying the box set was the wrong way to explore it).

I love her Mozart concerti with the ECO and Tate though (which have many of the same qualities as the sonatas). Actually, just the other weekend I was in London and heard her give the 25th concerto with Mackerras and the Philharmonia.

regards, Tam

Jeff,
At the Gorge is great.....they do some amazing covers during some of the encores, including I won't back Down (Tom Petty), Teenage Wasteland (the Who), and Rockin' in the Free World (Obviously Neil Young).

Well worth checking out.

Stefan,

My plastic had already a meltdown with the D200. Perhaps JPC will let me work for them for a week or so and then let me have access to their 'Stefan's recommendations' section.

Regards,

Haim
