What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)
Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005
Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.
So, what are you listening to right now?

At the moment, I'm listening to my work colleague's mobile. He's locked it in his desk but omitted to switch it off. It's got a really, really annoying ringtone as well.
Thoughtless fucker.

One of my real bugbears. I sit opposite the office joker/wag/wit. I did suggest I'd stamp his mobile into small pieces when he left it on his desk with a really irritating tone and it kept bloody ringing. He seems to have got the message.

After an hour it got so bad I called up Facilities who came up with a master key and got his desk open. I removed the offending item and switched it off. I was seriously tempted to stamp on the bloomin' thing though.

A rather fine Heldenleben from Barbirolli and the LSO (it must be fine, given I don't normally enjoy the work all that much).

JSB sounds great on pretty much anything - don't see the point in there being a definitive right or wrong to how he is played or appreciated. After all, the only one to comment objectively one way or the other would be he himself. You either like it or you don't, bit like most things really.
Thanks Huw,
The release date for the disk is July 20th, and you are already listening to it.
And I thought that being in Munich, you were only six hours and not six days ahead of us here...
How is the soundf on the Onyx label?
Haim
Received this today, and already after just a few pieces, I wholeheartedly agree with you, Huw ! Very pleasant.

Interesting CD of Joni cover versions. Arranged in rather conventional 'jazz trio' style. Having a man singing these songs is taking some getting used to but I think this might be a grower.

..and prompted by the recent N.Y. query another from the depths of the vinyl cupboard.
Seems uncharacteristically lonesome in here tonight - maybe Joan Armatrading's Me Myself, I next
