What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)

Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005

Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.

So, what are you listening to right now?

Holly Cole - Don't smoke in bed

Just back from the Biergarten and chilling on a balmy summer's evening. Why do I have to work tomorrow?

Oops! Sorry, you're right (got 12 of his, so get mixed up some times Frown)

It was: 'My Name is Buddy'

BTW: today I found a Japanese HDCD version of Roxy Music - Manifesto for 5 euro's so couldn't resist. Listened to "Dance Away" at minimum volume just now (late at night and living in a apartment).

Scott Walker 4

Loaned to me by one of the 5-a-side players, this has grown on me, a number of powerful tracks. This is an artist I know little about, but I gather he went a bit nuts after this album.

Regards

Nic

Munch,

Been a bit nuts myself at times, but cannot ever claimed to have written any decent music.

Following endless posts of the album below, I finally went out and bought it. Not been disappointed, cheers guys.

Currently listening to a rather swift Don Giovanni from Harding and the Mahler Chamber Orchestra.

To be honest it's the first time I've played it. I downloaded it last night for the iPod from eMusic; I had 25 free dls from Gramophone magazine this month so this was 4 of them!
Haitink does seem to (typically) have the edges filed off the orchestra.
Of course the music is stunning but I'll reserve judgment on the performance for a short while.
Cheers!

That shows how carefully I'm reading my copy of the Gramophone these days! Where was it: in the magazine or an insert in the bag they wrap it in for the post?

Haha! It was a big red sheet of cardboard that the mag and cd were attached to -- in my case anyway -- the details of the offer were written on the card in big letters. And I thought my eyesight was bad Razz

I think though that you can access the page directly here.

And it was 40, not 25!

As recommended by Mr Anderson...thank you. A great melancholic pop record.
