What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)

Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005

Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.

So, what are you listening to right now?

Does anyone else listen to Corelli?

I guess it is done in secret because no one bothers to post anything by this great string composer.

I have a few interpretations of the christmas concerto op.6 no.8 Il Giardino Armonico in a rather nice box set from warner classics.

Also a rather nice vinyl copy of the same concerto by I Musici.

I also have and like the English concert - Trevor Pinnock - 6 Concerti Grossi op.6.

Nothing with violin sonatas, there is a Phillips release with Arthur Grumiaux which I am tempted to buy.

Regards
Mark

Thanks, Mark.

Now I know that I am in a good company.

I have his 12 concertos Grossi op. 6, but I personally much prefer his sonatas. On top of his great op. 5 I also like a lot his Trio Sonatas op. 1 & 3 for two violins and basso continuo played by the London Baroque.

Regards,

Haim

On
Jordi Saval - La Folia (a fac of mine)
Teatro Lirico (ECM)
I enjoy Corelli pieces

The 6 Vilin Sonatas on Naxos are quute enjoyable, too.

If all fails, I refer to my "Complete Works" 10 CD set (Brilliant) which I haven't played fully, yet.

Corelli for me excels in his chamber creations.

Cheers

Now (the Nocturnes of):

Adam Harasiewicz is everything but a second class player that you use for cheap collections. Yes, recordings are oldish (from the sixties, but so am I...), but the way Harasiewicz makes a piano sing is unheard. Great !
