What are you listening to right now? (VOL I)

Posted by: Tam on 06 June 2005

Anyway, to kick things off, I'm currently, and probably for most of the rest of this week, listening to Radio 3's Beethoven Experience. They're doing one of the piano concertos at the moment and (number 2 with Glenn Gould). Anyway, the experience thing probably needs its own thread, but, even on this cheapo radio it's proving fairly enjoyable.

So, what are you listening to right now?

Pretty good. Certainly no clicks and pops. Smile
Better than the MOFI issue for sure.

Kuma,

Same here, I have both versions and the Cisco is much better. Steve Gadd's cymbals on the MOFI sound like the speakers are frying, not the case on the Cisco pressing.

Cheers,

Just finished listening to Blackfield and Blackfield II

If you like (melancholic) Pop music with a hint of Rock then Steven Wilson's project with Aviv Geffen is just for you. The songwriting, musicianship and production are 1st class. Buy both at Amazon for £16 and free posting; you won't regret it.

Always loved this Joe Henry disc Jeff. Certainly was a change from his earlier Jayhawks inspired discs.

It was the first Joe Henry disc I ever heard - I will never forget that evening, as I had never heard anything quite like this, and played it a second time immediately. Near perfection, and showing the eclecticism to come (though actually there are hints of the next three in Shufflewood as well). Still probably my favorite.

Less than a month till the new one.

Makes a nice random mixture of acoustic and electric blues-based songs. Was fortunate to see the line-up on MoD live - ie. John w/North Mississippi All-Stars. Terrific.

Chris
How it this ? I have a love/hate relationship with VM (admittedly limited exposure) but a love/love relationship with live recordings. Any comments - ie: time period, song selection, solo or full band. Amazon starts at 58.00 US for this Eek
